If you come to St Helens, you can’t be here long without hearing someone talking about the rugby club. Founded in 1873, St Helens RFC is a professional rugby league club that competes in the Super League, the top tier for rugby league in the UK.

But you can enjoy more than sport in St Helens. The Theatre Royal has a full programme of concerts, shows and pantomimes, and in 2023 hosted the annual Pantomime Awards, presented by everyone’s favourite dame, Christopher Biggins.

The Hot Water Comedy Club brings the very best in live comedy and does lots of great work to promote comedy and comedians across the UK. And St Helens is a great location for one of its clubs – Johnny Vegas, comedian, actor, writer, director, was born here in 1970.

If comedy’s not your thing, the North West Museum of Road Transport has the largest collection of old buses in the country. The Godfrey Pilkington Art Gallery and the World of Glass Museum give visitors a flavour of the town’s industrial heritage and history.
