Is your water system safe and compliant?

If you are a property owner, landlord or duty holder, you have a legal responsibility to ensure the safety of anyone using or living in your premises. Team Rock is here to help you meet that responsibility.

Any water system has the potential to be dangerous, whether through environmental conditions or poor design and maintenance. For example, Legionella, Pseudomonas and scalding are all hidden threats that could be lurking in your water system.

A robust water hygiene compliance plan protects you against the substantial penalties that can be imposed if you are found to be negligent. It also reduces costs by identifying and fixing any issues in your water system before they get out of hand.

From taps to air handling units, spas to showers, ensuring the protection of your buildings, people and company reputation is vital to your business.

A planned preventative maintenance (PPM) package from Rock Compliance helps you to achieve:

  • An ongoing reduction in non-conformances
  • Low risk, compliant systems
  • Minimised and predictable spend

The objective of all Legionella and water hygiene compliance contracts is to reduce risk. We achieve this by working with you to take the appropriate preventative action on the back of all non-conformances, thus eliminating the root cause of risk.

We work across all sectors, offering expert advice on ACoP L8, HSG274, water testing, water management and control of Legionella and Pseudomonas.

With national coverage, delivered by skilled engineers, we are always on hand when you need us.

Legionella risk assessments

The HSE document ‘Legionnaires’ disease. The control of legionella bacteria in water systems’ (ACoP L8), and HSG274 Part 2 ‘The control of legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems’ lay out the guidelines for compliant hot and cold water systems.

Remedial work

Rock Compliance offers a comprehensive range of core remedial works:

Pre-treatment equipment and installation

Pre-treatment equipment and installation is a successful route to clean, pure water.

Whether your site is supplied with mains water or bore water, it is important that the water entering your hot and cold water systems is of the highest quality.

Hot and cold water clean and disinfections

During a building’s operational life, its water systems are highly likely to require cleaning and disinfection of the cold-water storage tanks, calorifiers and system pipe work. Where this work is identified as being required, either due to visual inspection of cold water tanks or from positive bacterial samples, disinfections should be carried out in accordance with ACOP L8 and PD855468:2015.

Legionella training (face to face and/or online)

It is vital that everyone involved in the management of building water systems and control systems keeps up to date with the latest legislation and recommendations.

Temperature monitoring

The requirement for legionella control in hot and cold water systems is detailed in the HSE document ‘Legionnaires’ disease. The control of legionella bacteria in water systems’. This document, often referred to as ACOP L8, is the approved code of practice and guidance.

Shower descale and disinfection

The requirement for Legionella control in hot and cold water systems is detailed in the HSE document ‘Legionnaires’ disease. The control of legionella bacteria in water systems’. This document, often referred to as ACOP L8, is the approved code of practice and guidance on regulations.

Secondary disinfection options

Secondary disinfection is an effective way to mitigate the risks associated with microbiological growth and waterborne pathogens such as Legionella. It does this by killing potentially harmful organisms as it moves through the water pipes.

TMV testing

In order to control the growth of Legionella bacteria within hot and cold water systems, as required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Health and Safety Guidance (HSG) and Healthcare Technical Memorandum (HTM), thermostatic mixer valves (TMVs) need to be maintained annually by qualified professionals in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Softener supply, installation and servicing

Water softeners are installed in areas of the country that experience hard water. They remove calcium and magnesium ions, which form as scale on outlets and heat exchange surfaces like showers and heating elements in water heaters and calorifiers.

Remote temperature monitoring

Safe, clean and fully compliant water systems are critical for us all.

Legionnaires’ disease presents a significant risk in inadequately monitored and controlled water systems. It is contracted by inhaling airborne aerosolised water droplets that contain viable Legionella bacteria.
