Rock Compliance – upgrading and uplifting!
The trend in offices is towards hyper-flexible, employee-centric, and regenerative spaces that blend technology with comfort, with hybrid workspaces and quiet spaces where people can relax and recharge.
When a flood in our Alcester HQ left things looking distinctly the worse for wear, we decided to turn a negative into a positive by taking the opportunity to initiate a much-needed major overhaul to create a better place to work and visit, a flagship office that reflects our position as a leading national supplier of Water, Air and Asbestos compliance services.
The transformation
For a long time, we’ve needed to upgrade our HQ, but the downtime and disarray a big project like this would require put us off starting it. However, with the offices already unusable due to the flood damage, it was the ideal time to put our plans into motion, and start from scratch, replacing the flooring, repainting the walls, fitting new lighting, new fireproof blinds and ensuring consistency throughout, to create a much brighter, cleaner and altogether more welcoming environment.
“I was impressed by how lovely the refurbishment of the Alcester office was when completed. It is a Head Office to be proud of and can accommodate training, business meetings, etc, and is now an uplifting place to work in. Lewis and his team performed an amazing job and should be applauded for all their efforts.”
Isabel Crocker – Credit Controller, Rock Compliance
But it didn’t stop there. New white desks with matching chairs, updated toilet facilities and new air conditioning took the office repairs to the next stage, making the whole environment a much more positive and modern workspace. There is more space for hot desking, allowing people to come and work from the office whenever they need to.
The new boardroom is particularly impressive, with a huge table and enough seating for our regular large andwis Group, andwis Environmental Services, and Leadership Team meetings, and ideal for initiatives like the recent andwis ‘Safety, Built In’ initiative, where each day for a week material focussing on an element of Health and Safety was shared with staff.
Technology is an important part of the modern office. During this transition, the IT team has ensured that everyone has moved onto laptop instead of base units to facilitate more working-from-home to allow for a better work/life balance.
Let’s do lunch
The upgrade went far beyond new furniture, fixtures and fittings. Major design changes to improve the way we use the space were also carried out, including the removal of part of the kitchen wall to create a breakfast bar, zoning the area but also encouraging more effective and collaborative use of the space. The new open plan kitchen makes a great central place from which to share company news and we’ve made sure filtered water is always available for staff to enjoy. Milk is provided by the local milkman; another way we support Alcester small businesses.
We also know it’s healthy to stand up occasionally and focus on something than the computer screen, so we also created a breakout area with a sofa, table and chairs so people have somewhere to enjoy breaks away from their desks or meet up to discuss projects in a more informal setting. Additional breakout spaces at the front and back of the office have created smaller, quieter areas for colleagues to get away from their screens or for guests to wait.
Let the sunshine in
Natural light makes you feel better than artificial light, so the old porch was removed and replaced with glass doors, which, when coupled with a newly-extended glass internal wall, let light flood in, opening the offices up even more.
Plants have been shown to boost productivity, enhances creativity, and reduce stress. They improve air quality by removing toxins, reduce noise pollution, and increase overall employee wellbeing, so to bring nature in even more, we’ve made sure there are lots of plants around the office too.
“The new, open-plan layout makes the space feel lighter and brighter and the addition of the breakfast bar and break-out area so that lunch can be eaten away from the desk and informal group chats can take place gives the office a really welcoming and inclusive feel that was missing previously. The increase in the meeting room area so that larger groups and multiple meetings can happen as been a massive boon, and all new spaces are already being utilised on a weekly basis”

Achievements to shout about
Posters of our products, people and achievements line the walls, and our Culture Wheel, laying out our mission and targets, is proudly displayed for all to see, a daily reminder of our commitment to becoming the UK’s best national provider of compliance services, the most successful in our sector, and the best place to work.
Follow our growth on the Rock Compliance timeline, with takes you from our launch in 2017 right up to where we are in 2026, celebrating key dates in our growth – if things continue in the same way, we’ll be extending onto the next wall soon!
We’re very proud that the majority of the work was completed in-house by our own employees, and where we needed to bring in outside contractors, we used smaller local businesses.
What next?
We’re hoping this is just the beginning, as the HQ develops to become even more of a hub for colleagues from across the regions and across the andwis Group to meet and work from. The warehouse will soon be completed and plans include basing our School of Rock engineer training on site too – more news on that shortly.
We look forward to welcoming friends, colleagues and customers to the incredible Alcester HQ. Thank you to Lewis Evans, Fleet and Warehouse Manager, and Danielle Lyall, Senior Project Co-Ordinator, who managed the project. We now have an HQ we can be proud of, that will help us deliver compliance services of the highest quality.
