Each of the six regions within Rock Compliance regularly dedicates a day to working with a local charity, whether wrapping Christmas gifts to be distributed to families in need or packing boxes ready for distribution at a food bank.
This summer, the staff at the Newton Abbot office approached the estates team at client Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust to see if there was anything on the go that they could help with.
The Trust had the perfect suggestion – a project they had wanted to carry out for some time but not had the resources to start.
Occombe Farm is a family-friendly farm attraction in Paignton that offers a mix of animals, play, a nature trail, and a cafe, with all visits supporting the Trust’s conservation work.
In just one day, the Rock Compliance volunteers – more accustomed to being behind a desk or travelling the UK to carry out Water Hygiene compliance services than working in muddy field – cleared the quarantine area and built a brand-new fenced compound for newborn lambs. Work included fitting the fence posts and gate and wiring off the area to protect its precious residents.
In addition, the farmhands-for-a-day laid down a mulch track from the maintenance hut to the new compound and onwards to the waste area, cleared a large are of waste and rubble to the other side of the farm, and even mucked out some sheep fields.
Rock Compliance also made a financial donation that enabled the Trust to buy brand new materials for the project.
The day was hard work but huge fun – the Trust provided a delicious lunch, country music and, above all, encouraged a wonderful sense of camaraderie and friendship, which kept everyone’s energy levels up as they worked hard to complete their shared goal.
At the end of the day, all involved were able to stand back, lean on their shovels, and admire a job well done.
Mike Anning, Facilities and Maintenance Officer at Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust, thanked the team from Rock Compliance, saying: “I hope you all had a great day, we really do appreciate your efforts. The new quarantine area will help the farm team considerably and is a vast improvement on the fencing previously in use.
“We hope perhaps to see you again in the future, we still have plenty of projects we want to complete, and you would always be most welcome to participate.”
Rock Compliance is committed to giving back to customers and their communities.
As a PfH supplier, Rock Compliance actively looks for ways to support clients obtained through the framework, such as the donation made by the Business Development Team to Accent Housing to support its chosen charity, the Trussell Trust.
